This isn't oversensitivity. It's not immaturity. It's a nervous system response that was wired in long before you had any say in it — and it's running in the background of almost every social interaction you have. Understanding why it happens is the first step to actually being free of it.

This is where the frantic texting, the excessive apologizing, the inability to sit with the discomfort of unresolved tension comes from. It's not neediness in any pathological sense. It's an attachment system doing exactly what it was trained to do — scanning for abandonment and acting to prevent it.
Crucially, this pattern often plays out most intensely with people you care about most, because those are the people whose approval your attachment system has designated as essential. A stranger being cold to you might register as unpleasant. Your partner or best friend giving you the same response feels like the ground shifting.

At the deeper level, the work involves identifying and updating the core beliefs that the panic is protecting. The belief that your mistakes make you fundamentally unlovable. The belief that conflict is always a precursor to abandonment. The belief that keeping someone happy is the same thing as being safe. These aren't conscious thoughts — they're operating system-level assumptions, laid down before you had language for them.
